Global expert to talk at Int'l Seaweed Congress in Cebu
This is a press release from the Seaweed Industry Association of the Philippines:
MANILA, Philippines - Dr. Stefan Kraan, scientific director of the Canadian-registered company Ocean Harvest Technology (OHT) Ltd., is giving a talk on November 21 at the 2014 International Seaweed Congress (ISC) at the Waterfront Hotel, Cebu City.
Kraan co-founded OHT, a global company dedicated to the development of natural applications of algae (seaweed) for animal nutrition, with its CEO Patrick Martin. OHT produces Oceanfeed, a seaweed-based functional feed ingredient for animal and aquaculture farming.
Kraan’s talk will be on the morning of November 21, the last day of the congress. His presentation will elaborate on how seaweed can be converted into other forms like feed additive to replace the chemical ingredients of animal eats. These applications, in turn, give healthier food choices for consumers.
In 2005, Ocean Harvest Technology began in Galway, Ireland where its Research & Development facility is now located. OHT has since grown into a global company with strong presence in North America, Europe and Australia. OHT/Oceanfeed lists the biggest food companies in Europe and America as among its clients.
Kraan holds a PhD on phylogenetics and aquaculture of edible seaweeds from the National University of Ireland. He is currently VP of the International Seaweed Association. Dr. Kraan continues to pursue research in the use of seaweeds in animal feed, aquaculture, biotechnology and biomedicine.
