MANILA, Philippines – The Philippine Disaster Recovery Foundation (PDRF), the country’s major private sector vehicle and coordinator for disaster management, and one of the world’s few full-time permanent private sector disaster management organization, is featured resource organization in the global webinar, “Building Disaster Management Partnerships – Private sector experiences in the Philippines and beyond.” 

Hosted by the Professionals in Humanitarian Assistance and Protection (PHAP) and the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UN OCHA), the live online event is slated Wednesday, November 26, 9pm to 10:30pm, Philippine time.

Rene “Butch” S. Meily, President of PDRF, will share the efforts and successes of Philippine businesses in responding and helping in times of calamity, especially from the Super Tyhoon Yolanda (Haiyan).

Meily will be joined by Samantha Penabad. a strategy consultant with Accenture Development Partnerships (ADP) and Stuart Reid, co-founder of The Partnering Initiative (TPI)

The guest speakers will discuss the importance of partnership across sectors to support preparedness, response, and recovery. They will look at various models and leading practices in the Philippines, in the Asia-Pacific region, and globally. The interactive discussion will look at both challenges and opportunities, and seek to collect best practice and lessons learned from a wide audience.

The webinar is part of the World Humanitarian Summit consultations on “The Power of Business in Emergencies,” the online event will take place a week before the Asia Regional Business Consultation in Bangkok on December 2. It will seek to explore and capture private sector perspectives on how the business community can coordinate itself to engage more systematically in support of emergency preparedness and response and in partnership with governments and humanitarian organizations.

Key points from the online discussion will be brought to the table at the Asia Regional Business Consultation in Bangkok, which will be co-hosted by PDRF, ADP, and OCHA, and which supports the Summit consultative process.

“PDRF was born as a public-private partnership and our whole focus has been on building partnerships among international agencies, the national and local governments, NGOs and the private sector, said Meily. “PDRF, UN OCHA, Accenture and Prudence Foundation are focusing on the private sector’s response to disasters and recognize its importance as a key player in response and recovery.”
