MANILA, Philippines – Task Force Pride (TFP) PH, the official convener of the annual Metro Manila Pride (MMP) March, in cooperation with DAKILA Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism, is holding an afternoon of inspiring and empowering set of talks that will tackle the multifaceted issues and concerns the average lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender (LGBT) person faces in present Philippine society.

The event, called Pride SPEAKS, is done as part of a series of events that lead to the Metro Manila Pride March, which is set to happen on December 6 at Remedios Circle, Malate, Manila.

Pride SPEAKS aims to educate and engage both the LGBT community from strong advocates and people who simply identify as such to straight allies, focusing on the fight for equal rights.

Set to open on November 29th at the Environmental Studies Institue Conference Room at Miriam College, Pride SPEAKS launches with the theme “Bente and Beyond.”

The talks will showcase the many faces of Philippine LGBT advocacy, explaining the different struggles and triumphs that each group has gone through as a community for the past 20 years. It will also highlight the current political and socia issuesl LGBTs face.

The talks aim to loop in allies who are neither LGBT nor advocates – friends, families, relatives, co-workers, eand others who are personally touched by and concerned for the LGBTs.

Speakers included are: Libay Linsangan Canto, Giney Villar, Brigite Salvatore, AR Arcon, Fire Sia, Perci Cendaña, Doc Guy Claudio, Kakay Pamaran, Jonas Bagas, Naomi Fontanos, Angie Umbac, Bibo Perey, Gyky Tangente, and Kelsey Hadjirul. Plus, Pride Speaks will also feature a rare interview with the Trailblazers of the Pride Movement in the Philippines – Fr. Richard Mickley, Murphy Red, and Ferdie Mendoza.

The program starts at 1pm and includes a special screening of Cha Roque’s winning documentary piece for the Stories of Being Me, an initiative by the B-Change Foundation.

In keeping with MMP’s theme of “Come Out For Love, Pag-Ibig Pa Rin!,” Pride SPEAKS aims to bring together a community of Filipinos who are bonded by a common love for their LGBT loved ones, families, and country.
