Art Writing Workshop in Baguio City
Press Release: Maximum of 15 participants may register for the Art Writing Workshop on July 2015

This is a press release from Mt. Cloud Events

MANILA, Philippines – Art and artistic happenings are abundant in Baguio City, but apart from announcements of events, published writing about Baguio’s thriving art scene is lacking. Mt Cloud Bookshop, Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary, the Ateneo Art Gallery, and Pananaw ng Sining Bayan are responding to this lack by offering a three-day Art Writing Workshop on July 24, 25, and 26.

During the workshop, writers will learn about conceptual tools for doing documentation and reviews or critique, or simply writing about art and publishing in local media, blogs, or online platforms. The main point is to increase writing about art in Baguio. Written documentation and reviews are a vital element of a robust art scene and important for increasing public appreciation for art.

Director of the Ateneo Art Gallery, Victoria Herrera will provide grounding in art history. Professor Oscar Campomanes of the Ateneo de Manila School of Humanities will speak on art writing and criticism. Erlyn Alcantara, curator of the Sanctuary Gallery in Maryknoll, will speak about the history of the Baguio art scene. Local artists and participants in the workshop may also share their knowledge on the current pulse of the arts in Baguio. The workshop will be facilitated by Eileen Legaspi-Ramirez, editor of Pananaw Philippine Journal for Visual Arts, and Yael Buencamino, Managing Curator of the Ateneo Art Gallery. Writing exercises will also be conducted.

By the end of the workshop, participants will have written a piece each on the Earth Manual Project, an exhibition currently housed in the Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary. The organizers of the workshop will facilitate the publication of these pieces in local and online media.

The Art Writing Workshop will be held in the Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary, on July 24, 25, and 26, from 10AM to 5PM each day.

There is a workshop fee of P2,500 inclusive of materials, lunches, and morning and afternoon snacks and coffee. Accommodations and meals can be arranged at the Maryknoll Ecological Sanctuary for participants from out of town. To reserve a room, please call (074) 424 5745. For inquiries on the workshop and pre-registration, please visit Mt Cloud Bookshop at the Casa Vallejo building, Upper Session Road, Baguio City. Mt Cloud Bookshop may also be reached by email: queries@mtcloudbookshop.com, or phone: (074) 424-4437. A maximum of 15 participants may register for the Art Writing Workshop. – Rappler.com
