International Bamboo Organ Festival goes online from March 5 to 7

This is a press release from the Bamboo Organ Foundation Inc.

Since the restoration of the Bamboo Organ in 1975, we have been celebrating the gift this instrument has been to Las Piñas, giving an identity to the city and to the country, protecting our national organ patrimony which is unique in Asia.

The present situation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic did not change our conviction to continue this annual event although held on another platform maximizing the use of technology and the ingenuity of social media.

The 46th International Bamboo Organ Festival Online is scheduled from March 5 to 7, every evening at 8 pm. The program will be available on https://www.facebook.com/ibof46online (FB Page 46th International bamboo Organ Festival Online) and on YouTube (International Bamboo Organ Festival (Official)) so that our friends from around the world can watch regardless of their time zones. The camera will make it possible to have a unique view on the keyboard of the Bamboo Organ played by our titular organist, Professor Armando Salarza. He will also introduce us to the pipe organ of the San Scholastica College of Music and at the organ at San Ezekiel Moreno Oratory.

To remain an "international" festival, we have the participation of our friends Luc Ponet (Belgium), Guy Bovet (Switzerland), and a Filipina based in New York, Jennifer Pascual (St. Patrick’s Cathedral, NYC), to improvise on Filipino tunes to be played on their own grand pipe organ.

Finally, each program will close with a rendition of a short motet by the Villancico Vocal Ensemble, the festival's resident choir celebrating their 10th anniversary, directed by the festival's resident conductor, Beverly Shangkuan Cheng. Hosting the 3-day festival is Ms. Tiffany Liong Gabuya of DZFE.

We hope to reach as many people as possible. NO TICKETS WILL BE SOLD THIS YEAR. We are entirely depending on our sponsors and donors for us to cover the expenses incurred for this production and continue on with this tradition.

As you may know, our performing artists are seriously affected by this pandemic and now face an uncertain future. Through your support, the future of these "musical frontliners" will be sustained. At the same time, we are preserving one of the longest-running annual cultural events that has been going on for more than 45 years.
