Int’l Eucharistic Congress: Cebu City road closures January 24-31

CEBU CITY, Philippines – Only a week after the Sinulog festival, Cebu City hosts the 51st annual International Eucharistic Congress (IEC) from January 24 to 31.

Some roads have been closed, trucks banned, and parking prohibited in certain areas of the city.

January 24 to 31
Vans, trucks, and trailers will be prohibited on the following roads:

• Veterans Drive (from Marco Polo hotel to Salinas Drive)
• F Cabahug Street (from JY Gorordo Avenue to Archbishop Reyes Avenue)
• Osmeña Boulevard (from Fuente Osmeña to Capitol/North Escario Street) 
• Gorordo Avenue (from General Maxilom Avenue to Cardinal Rosales Avenue) 
• General Maxilom Avenue (from Gorordo Avenue to Fuente Osmeña)
• Fuente Osmeña 
• North Escario Street (from Don Gil Garcia Street to Archbishop Reyes Avenue
• F Urot Street (from Cabahug Street to Kaohsiung Street)
• Kaoshiung Street (from Serging Osmeña Avenue to A Soriano Avenue)
• Cardinal Rosales Avenue (from Pope John Paul II to Luzon Avenue)

Sunday, January 24
Closed from 4 pm onwards:

• MJ Cuenco Avenue, MC Briones to Legaspi Extension and Arellano St
• Lapu Lapu Street to MJ Cuenco 

Trucks, vans and trailers will not be allowed to enter the SRP underpass and South Coastal Road from 2 pm until the end of the IEC mass at Plaza Independencia.

Alternate routes

• Light vehicles can take SRP tunnel and South Coastal Road 
  
• MJ Cuenco to New Imus Road and North Bacalso Avenue
• Downtown-bound motorists can take Osmena Boulevard to Zulueta and Jakosalem Street

January 25 to 30
From 5 am to 9 am; and 2 pm to 6 pm

• Pope John Paul II Avenue  (TESDA on the corner of Governor Cuenco Avenue and Salinas Drive to the Ayala Access Road will be closed)

Alternate routes

• From Lahug to Mabolo take Gorordo Avenue, Mindanao Avenue or General Maxilom Avenue
• To get from north to south take the Archbishop Reyes Flyover, MJ Cuenco Avenue or South Osmena Avenue

January 28

Visita Iglesia

Sector 1

• The route will start from Capitol Parish going right to Gorordo Avenue to Asilo dela Milagrosa Road, then to Redemptorist Church along R Aboitiz Street, turning right on Juana Osmeña Street, then right on North Escario Street to Capitol Parish

Sector 2

• This route will begin at the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral passing P Burgos Street to Basilica Minore del Santo Niño to D Jakosalem Street. Then turn left on Legaspi Street to Pelaez Street to Santo Rosario Parish. From P Del Rosario Street the procession will turn left on D Jakosalem Street to Sacred Heart Church, back to D Jakosalem Street, then straight to the downtown area. From there, it will turn left on P Gomez Street, then right on P Burgos Street and back to the Cebu Metropolitan Cathedral.

January 29

4pm onwards

• Osmena Boulevard from Cebu Doctors’ Hospital to the Capitol building and a stretch of Escario St from Gil Garcia to Juan Osmena St will be closed for mass

January 30
Holy Eucharist and Sinulog presentation at the Cebu City Sports Center

The following roads will be closed:

• P Del Rosario Street from Pelaez St up to Leon Kilat Street
• Osmena Blvd from Sanciangko Street up to Arlington Pond Street
• R Landon Street from Pelaez Street up to the Sports Center

For those traveling from north Metro Cebu to the south should take the SRP and South Coastal Road.

January 31
No road closures planned.
