The search for 10 outstanding programs in local governance is back!
After a hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the Galing Pook Foundation launched this year’s awards for programs that exemplified adaptiveness, innovation, resiliency, and excellence.
Galing Pook’s incoming executive director Georgina Ann Hernandez-Yang opened the online event with the theme “GobyerNew: Magagaling na Programa mula sa Magagaling na Pook.“
“The year’s awards is about celebrating local governments who were able to effectively and continuously deliver their programs in the new normal context. Many local governments inspired us and provided models of good governance during these challenging times,” she said.
Former Galing Pook awardees expressed their support for the launch. Mayor Rex Gatchalian, a 3-time Galing Pook awardee, explained how the recognition gave Valenzuela City a sense of honor, pride, and fulfillment as it pushed them to create better and far more innovative programs for their constituents.
Mayor Rommel Arnado of Kauswagan, Lanao del Norte, attested how the award paved the way for two international recognitions.
Alfredo Matugas Coro II, vice mayor of Del Carmen, Siargao, shared the impact of the award given to their Siargao It up: Mangrove Management Program.
The live event was also graced by Eddie Dorotan, Galing Pook’s outgoing executive director, Carolyn Fariñas, board member, 2nd district of Zambales, and former mayor of San Felipe, and Allan Rellon, mayor of Tagum City.
Hernandez-Yang extended her invitation to all local government units (LGUs) to participate in this year’s awards search.
“There is a huge demand for our service of recognizing and sharing good local governance models as all LGUs face the daunting task of building back better. We need your support to make this happen,” she emphasized.
The Galing Pook Awards will be given to local government units that are involved or engaged in programs that showed verifiable and significant results.
The 2021 Galing Pook Awards Search will be accepting applications until June 30, 2021, 11:59 pm PST. Application details can be found on Galing Pook’s website. – Rappler.com
