ESTADISTIKA, an annual, invitational statistics quiz, poster-making, essay-writing, and photo contest, was launched by the University of the Philippines (UP) Los Baños Statistical Society (UPLB STATS).

In its 15th year, high school and college students nationwide are invited to participate in Mulat 2021: A Nationwide ESTADISTIKA Special Edition for Essay Writing and Vlog Making Contests.

Due to the pandemic, the organization opted to re-invent the program with the same aim to introduce the proper application of statistics in various disciplines and to promote intellectual growth in statistics nationwide. 

ESTADISTIKA aims to instill the significance of statistics among students and to introduce the proper application of statistics in various disciplines. For this special edition, the contest will focus on the importance of environment statistics in building a better society.

Environment statistics, an application of statistical methods that measure human activities and natural events that affect the environment,, is used for evidence-based policies to support sustainable development.

Through essay and vlog-making contests of MULAT 2021: An ESTADISTIKA Special Edition, different students nationwide can highlight the relevance of media and environment statistics in environmental awareness.

The essay writing contest, which will start on March 22, 2021, is divided into two divisions: high school and college. For the high school division, the contest is open to all Grades 9 to 12. For the college division, the contest is open to all undergraduate students.

Meanwhile, the vlog-making contest, which will officially start on March 15, 2021, will be open to senior high school and undergraduate college students.

All participants for Mulat 2021 must be currently enrolled in the Academic Year 2020–2021. Moreover, both contests have no registration fee.

Participants of the essay writing contest will have a chance to win P2,500 for first place, P1,500 for second place, and P 1,000 for third place.

For the vlog-making contest, the participating teams could win P 6,000 for the grand prize, P3,000 for the first runner-up, and P1,000 for being the most liked video on ESTADISTIKA’s Facebook page.

Mulat 2021 officially launched on February 14, 2021, and the registration period for the contests started on February 15. You may go to the following links to register. These forms are open until the noon of March 14 only.

For 40 years, the UPLB STATS, a duly recognized academic organization in the University of the Philippines Los Baños, has committed itself to the pursuit of academic and professional excellence.

Though an academic organization, UPLB STATS does not set its limit in developing academic excellence among its members but also in promoting awareness among the youth nationwide.

In recognition of its outstanding efforts and exemplary dedication to the successful conduct of various statistical advocacy activities for the youth, UPLB STATS was awarded as the Best Youth Advocate for Statistics during the 27th  and 28th National Statistics Month.
