PRESS RELEASE: UP Organization of Business Economics Majors’ annual economics convention features discussions on how responses to public health issues can improve economic outcomes

This is a press release from the UP Organization of Business Economics Majors.

After one year on hiatus, the UP Organization of Business Economics Majors (UP OBEM) once again held its annual economics convention Econ No-Mix last May 15 and 16.

Econ No-Mix 2021, with the theme “RESCUE: Reviving the Philippine Economy through Strengthening the Healthcare System,” focused its discussions on the government’s role in developing and implementing policies to strengthen the healthcare system and how responses to public health issues can improve economic outcomes.

Econ No-Mix brought together high school students and teachers nationwide to learn more about the state of the country’s healthcare system and its relationship to the economy through talks and competitions. The convention was held on virtual platforms, primarily via Zoom.

The annual convention featured various activities targeted for high school students and teachers. The students’ convention exposed high school students to industry leaders and movers of society to show how economics provides a solution to modern-day public health challenges. On the other hand, the teachers’ convention tackled how prioritizing health, especially its mental aspect, can help teachers maximize their students’ potential.

The debate, essay writing, idea generation, and quiz bee competitions have also challenged students to think critically on the issues currently faced by Philippine society and apply their deeper understanding of economics in real-life situations.
