MANILA, Philippines – The Philippines largest mall developer, SM Prime, will open its 46th Philippine shopping mall – SM Lanang Premier – in September 2012.

Located at J.P. Laurel Avenue, Brgy. Lanang in Davao City, the mall is SM’s second in the province, after SM City Davao.

“This is SM Prime’s biggest and first premier mall development project in Mindanao that is designed to cater to the growing demands of the Davao market and its vibrant tourism industry,” said Hans T. Sy, the President of SM Prime.

At 144,000 square meters, the gross floor area is about as expansive as 330 regulation basketball courts.

The mall has 5 cinemas and an IMAX Theater, with a combined seating capacity of 2,200. A bowling center, SMX Davao Convention Center, Science Discovery Center and sustainable Skygarden also deck out the new complex.

So far 88% of SM Lanang Premier is occupied. Tenants include: Jollibee, Forever 21, Kultura, Cha Time, Mesa, KFC and Watsons.

The mall is the 5th SM has opened this year, after SM City Olongapo in Zambales, SM City Consolacion in Cebu, SM City San Fernando in Pampanga and SM City General Santos in South Cotabato.

The new malls bring the company’s gross mall floor area to a whopping 5.5 million sqm. That’s roughly the size of 12,597 regulation basketball courts.

SM Prime is also planning to open another mall – SM Chongquing in China – before the end of the year. By the end of 2012, SM Prime will have 46 local malls and 5 malls in China. – Rappler.com
