A unit of PLDT-led outsourcing firm SPi Global has acquired a publishing business, marking its entry into the educational marketplace

MANILA, Philippines – A unit of PLDT-led outsourcing firm SPi Global has acquired a publishing business, marking its entry into the educational marketplace.

In a statement on Monday, November 12, SPi said its subsidiary Laserwords has acquired Tighe Publishing Services, a full-service educational development house that will be the group’s vehicle to take advantage of the burgeoning opportunities in the educational publishing business in the United States.

“Tighe’s editorial, design, and content development capabilities will complement Laserwords’ strength in production with conversion, digital, and technology services for educational publishers,” Michael O’Brien, Executive Vice President of Laserwords/SPi, said in a statement.

The acquisition price was not disclosed.

O’Brien explained that the acquisition fills the gap in Laserwords’ portfolio since Tighe has the editorial and design team that is key when pursuing and competing for large-scale projects.

For her part, Tighe President Suzanne Tighe recognized Laserwords’ vast experience in digital content development, offshore and conversion services, and new offerings and services for mobile content and digital services.

“Laserwords’ areas of expertise constitute advantages for Tighe because they complement our strengths in content development and design,” said Tighe.

SPi Global is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Co. (PLDT). – Rappler.com
