Purisima: Congress will support new tax measures

MANILA, Philippines – Finance Secretary Cesar Purisima expressed confidence that Malacanang-backed tax measures will be passed in Congress.

“The president (Aquino) has very good working relationship with Congress,” he said during the Philippine Economic Briefing on Tuesday, March 6.

He noted that there are 2 bills now being taken by Congress; rationalization of fiscal incentives and sin tax reforms.

“We will continue to work with them on that,” he said.

“But we will continue to improve tax effort so we reach a point where we are comfortable with our debt sustainability,” he added.
