MANILA, Philippines – Several issues hounded this year’s national budget.

Corruption allegations were hurled left and right, with then budget chief Benjamin Diokno, House committee on appropriations chairperson Rolando Andaya Jr, and Senator Panfilo Lacson as some of the characters in the face-off.

These issues delayed the passage of the budget, forcing the government to operate on a reenacted budget(READ: Budget deadlock: Who’s to blame?)

This caused the economic growth to slump to a mere 5.6%, pushing economic managers to play catch-up.
