MANILA, Philippines – The Manila Electric Company (Meralco) will be lowering power rates for the 3rd consecutive month, as transmission charges dropped, the company announced on Monday, July 8.
Meralco is slashing rates by P0.1068 per kilowatt hour (kWh) in July, representing a total downward adjustment of P0.57 per kWh since May.
A typical household consuming 200 kWh will see a reduction of P21 from the total bill.
For households consuming more than that, the following reductions will take effect:
- 300 kWh – P32
- 400 kWh – P43
- 500 kWh – P53
The overall reduction for July was mainly brought about by lower transmission charges for residential customers.
Electricity prices in the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market increased, but were offset mostly by lower charges of independent power producers and stable charges of power supply agreements. – Rappler.com
