MANILA, Philippines – Megaworld Corporation will be opening the first premium point-to-point (P2P) bus service hub in Western Visayas in 2019, in a bid to participate in the government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program.
In a statement on Wednesday, July 10, Megaworld said the P350-million transport hub will be located along Megaworld Boulevard at the 72-hectare Iloilo Business Park in Iloilo City.
The hub will have two 4,000-square-meter terminals, with one dedicated for departures and another for arrivals.
“All of our townships, especially those in urban centers, serve as convergence points of motorists and commuters,” said Megaworld head of estate management Jose Arnulfo Batac.
“Thus, we integrate transport hubs in our developments to meet the transport needs of the local community.”
Batac added that their project, which is in partnership with the local office of the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB), seeks to provide “world-class and convenient” land transport.
“Hopefully, this will serve as a model for other transport hubs in the region,” he said.
Each terminal will have an airconditioned traveler’s lounge, which will house its own ticketing booths, a food park, breastfeeding stations, shower rooms, and toilets. The lounges will also have free Wi-Fi.
Both terminals will have 200 free parking slots at the second and third floors.
On Thursday, July 11, the LTFRB will be launching the first 106 P2P buses, which will be equipped with auto-pay systems. The buses will be going to and from the Iloilo Business Park to:
- Iloilo Airport
- Roxas Airport
- Kalibo Airport
- Caticlan Airport (Boracay)
The LTFRB will also launch 265 taxis and 165 jeepneys which will also have auto-pay systems. – Rappler.com
