MANILA, Philippines – In a move to encourage passengers to purchase tickets online or from accredited traveling agencies, legacy carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) will impose new and higher fees for tickets purchased from its offices starting April.

In a statement, PAL said it also aims to reduce queues in its ticketing offices to improve customer service and reduce costs.

PAL said it will impose the following :

  • Domestic tickets will be charged a higher service charge of P100.00, exclusive of value added tax (VAT), from the current P50
  • International tickets, which are currently free from charges, will carry a US$5 service charge, VAT inclusive
  • Issuance of a booking and flight certificate will be charged P200, exclusive of VAT, from P100
  • Itinerary receipt will be subject to a new fee of P50, exclusive of VAT

All charges and fees are non-refundable. Only PAL Million Milers or frequent flyers and reissued tickets are exempted from the ticketing service charge.

“The cost of operations from some of our ticketing offices is quite huge. Service will improve if we decongest the lines at our ticketing offices. The public can still buy tickets through travel agents and website which bear no additional costs,” said Bautista.

Bautista said there are no plans to increase PAL air fare despite higher operational expenses. “For now, adjustments will be coming from fuel surcharge.”

Recently, PAL raised fuel surcharges–or the incremental cost of jet fuel passed on to passengers–for domestic flights bound for Visayas and Mindanao.

PAL has a pending request to increase fuel surcharges also on international flights. – Rappler.com
