Fernando Zobel de Ayala’s ‘okay’ after bike crash

The tycoon is now doing 'okay'

MANILA, Philippines – Fernando Zobel de Ayala, among the country’s richest, is in good condition and is doing “okay” after his bike crashed Saturday, according to the Philippine Daily Inquirer.

The accident occurred during a triathlon event in Pico de Loro leisure estate in Nasugbu, Batangas. A triathlon is a 3-sport event that involves completion of swimming, cycling and running.

A “bit disoriented” was how the business tycoon was described by an Inquirer source. Because the route was a bit slippery, Zobel de Ayala’s bike crashed during the cycling leg of the triathlon.

The vice-chair, president and chief operating officer of Ayala Corp was flown out of Batangas by helicopter for immediate medical treatment.

According to ABS-CBN News, Fernando’s brother Jaime said that he (Fernando) “is presently in a stable medical condition” and that the “incident just requires suturing of laceration sustained.”

Besides chairing Ayala Land Inc and Manila Water Co Inc , Zobel de Ayala is also a director at Bank of the Philippine Islands, Globe Telecom, and Integrated Micro- Electronics. – Rappler.com
