DOTC recommends Alfonso Tan for LTO chief post

Tan is currently OIC. He replaced Virginia Torres, who retired on Nov 1

MANILA, Philippines – The Department of Transportation and Communications has recommended that Land Transportation Office (LTO) officer-in-charge Alfonso Tan be appointed as head of the agency.

Transportation secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya said they have sent the recommendation to Malacañang, but “are still awaiting the papers.”

Tan was designated as OIC of LTO on November 1 when the retirement of former LTO chief Virginia Torres took effect.

Tan, a lawyer, joined LTO in September 2011. He was appointed executive director of the agency by then Transportation secretary Manuel “Mar” Roxas.

Torres announced her retirement early October after a video of her playing casino went viral.

Under Memorandum Circular No. 8 issued by Malacañang in 2001, “all government personnel concerned are prohibited from entering, staying and/or playing at casinos.”

Torres admitted she went to a casino, but said this happened “way back.” – Rappler.com
