The telco expands its overseas presence by offering call, SMS, load-up and mobile data services in Italy

MANILA, Philippines – Ayala-owned Globe Telecom Inc. expanded its presence overseas by offering mobile services in Italy, where thousands of Filipinos are based.

In a disclosure to the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday, November 25, Atty. Marisalve Ciocson-Co, compliance officer and vice president for legal services of Globe, said Globe Mobile Italy S.r. tied up with Compagnia Italia Mobile S.r. and Belgium 2Effortel Technologies S.A. to launch mobile communication services in Italy.

Ciocson-Co said the partnership will provide call, SMS, load top-up and mobile data services to about 200,000 Filipinos based in or visiting the European country.

“This new offering is consistent with Globe’s thrust to continue providing Filipinos overseas with innovative and value for money services that allow constant communication ties with family and friends,” she said.

Italy is the sixth country where Globe has presence. Globe also offers services in the US, United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong and Saudi Arabia.

Filipinos living in or visiting Italy may now use a local Globe SIM in the country, gaining access to competitive mobile rates. They can call family and friends subscribed to Globe or Touch Mobile in the Philippines for only 5 euro cents per minute.

“Italy is home to Filipinos who are permanent migrants or working in a variety of sectors. They have already embraced Italy as their second home but continue to find ways and means to keep in touch with family in the Philippines,” said Rizza Maniego-Eala, Globe senior vice president of International Business.

Globe’s subscriber base expanded by 14% to 36.5 million as of end-September. Prepaid subscribers of Globe grew 5% to 16.96 million, and TM subscribers by 23% to 17.57 million. Postpaid subscribers increased 19% to 1.98 million. – Rappler.com
