The Sy-led SM group announced that it will open its 44th mall in the Philippines and 3rd in Pampanga province on Friday, July 20

MANILA, Philippines – The Sy-led SM group announced that it will open its 44th mall in the Philippines and 3rd in Pampanga province on Friday, July 20.

In a statement on July 19, the country’s most dominant mall developer and operator, SM Prime Holdings, Inc., told the exchange that the brand new mall will increase the group’s total gross floor area (GFA) to 5.2 million square meter (sqm).

“We warmly welcome all our valued customers to our newest and third mall in Pampanga, SM City San Fernando. This caters to the need for another mall in Pampanga as the province has clearly advanced over the years owing to its established agricultural economy and its now thriving tourism industry,” SM Prime President Hans T. Sy said.

San Fernando, the city capital of Pampanga, is the center of commerce and trade of the central Luzon region, which hosts industries like agriculture, manufacturing, food processing, and handicraft making.

The new 7-storey mall has 3 cinemas with total 1,068 seats, and parking slots for over 300 vehicles.

“SM City San Fernando,” which has a GFA of 42,625 sqm and leasable area of 20,416 sqm, will join SM City Pampanga and SM City Clark in this central Luzon province. The two other malls opened in November 2000 and May 2006, respectively.

This new mall is the third SM mall to be opened this year, after SM City Olongapo in Zambales and SM City Consolacion in Cebu, which were inaugurated last February and June, respectively.

In the pipeline for opening this 2012 are SM City General Santos in Southern Mindanao, SM City Lanang in Davao City, and SM Chongqing in China.

These will bring SM Prime’s mall portfolio to a total of 46 malls in the Philippines and 5 in China with an estimated combined GFA of 6.3 million sqm. – Rappler.com
