The Aboitiz Group will offer AstraZeneca's COVID-19 vaccine to over 30,000 employees and subcontractors

The Aboitiz Group joins other major conglomerates in the Philippines in covering the vaccination of all its employees and subcontractors against COVID-19.

In a statement on Wednesday, March 10, the Aboitiz Group said AstraZeneca doses will be offered to over 30,000 workers.

Its frontliners, senior citizens, and those with comorbidities will be prioritized.

The conglomerate earlier contributed over P2.2 billion to the country’s COVID-19 response efforts. It is also among the first 30 private companies to sign a deal with the national government and AstraZeneca under the private sector-led tripartite initiative.

“Even before the vaccines arrive, we have been planning for the efficient distribution of vaccines for our team members and subcontractors, in adherence to government guidelines. This is to ensure an effective deployment program,” said Sabin Aboitiz, Aboitiz Group president and chief executive officer.

The Aboitiz Group includes Aboitiz Power, UnionBank, Pilmico Foods, Aboitiz InfraCapital, Aboitiz Construction, and Aboitiz Land.

Another conglomerate, Ramon Ang’s San Miguel Corporation, said it is spending around P1 billion for the COVID-19 vaccination of all of its 70,000 workers.

San Miguel did not say which brands it would buy, but noted that it secured COVID-19 vaccine deals “from various sources.” – Rappler.com
