Over 40,000 farmers are affected by Severe Tropical Storm Maring

Damage and losses caused by Severe Tropical Storm Maring (Kompasu) climbed to P1.2 billion, latest figures from the Department of Agriculture (DA) showed.

Some 40,225 farmers and fishers have been affected, with the volume of production loss at 68,693 metric tons and 60,029 hectares of agricultural areas.

Affected commodities included rice, corn, high value crops, livestock, and fisheries.

The DA earlier said that affected farmers can avail themselves of zero-interest loans and claim crop insurance. The agency is also prepared to deploy some P300 million under its Quick Response Fund. – Rappler.com
