Budget airline AirAsia on Thursday, January 14, launched its e-commerce platform in the Philippines, the second destination for its digital shop.
Dubbed AirAsia Shop, the platform has product offerings in beauty, fashion, electronics, and health. AirAsia merchandise are also sold on the platform.
“With the immense growth of our country’s digital economy in just the previous year, we see this as a great opportunity to join the e-commerce industry, redefining duty-free, travel retail, and at-home shopping experiences,” said AirAsia Philippines chief executive officer Ricky Isla.
The first AirAsia shop was launched in Malaysia in August 2020.
To celebrate the Philippine launch, AirAsia Shop is offering a 50% discount on selected items plus free delivery.
Apart from the current offerings on the site, the airline is also looking for sellers to join its platform.
“Through further partnerships and collaborations, we look forward to offering convenient and value-for-money travel retail shopping in the Philippines and consequently increasing our presence across ASEAN in the near future,” said AirAsia.com CEO Karen Chan.
The airline’s logistics arm Teleport will handle deliveries.
In October 2020, AirAsia Group launched its revamped site in a bid to compete as a lifestyle “super app” in the region, offering flights, hotels, activities, and shopping options.
In Malaysia, the carrier also offers AirAsia Fresh, where consumers can buy meat, vegetables, and grocery items online. – Rappler.com
