AirAsia’s logistics arm Teleport partnered with Golden Arches Development Corporation, which holds the franchise of fast-food giant McDonald’s in the Philippines, to support its delivery operations in Metro Manila.

AirAsia and McDonald’s Phillippines executives signed the agreement on Monday, March 1.

The two firms kicked off the partnership by sending off 10 members of the delivery team – some of whom are part of AirAsia’s cabin crew, pilots, and ground staff – at McDonald’s McKinley West branch in Taguig City.

McDonald’s Philippines chief executive officer Kenneth Yang said their delivery business grew “tremendously” as customers shifted to ordering online because of the coronavirus pandemic.

“Through partnerships like this with AirAsia and Teleport, we will be able to cater to the growing demand while maintaining the high standards of quality, commitment to convenience, and accessibility that McDonald’s is known for here in the Philippines and all over the world,” said Yang.

Teleport country head Ernest Bernal said they are hoping to partner with stores in other Philippine cities where they have a presence. Aside from Metro Manila, Teleport has delivery services in Bacolod, Cebu, Davao, General Santos, Iloilo, Kalibo, Puerto Princesa, and Cagayan de Oro, among others.

“Teleport is looking forward to the growth of our partnership with Golden Arches Development Corporation to expand our services nationwide, as well as Southeast Asia through AirAsia’s expansive network across cities and countries,” said Bernal.

McDonald’s Philippines is Teleport’s biggest client to date since AirAsia ventured into the logistics sector in the country in November 2020.

In Southeast Asia, Teleport, formerly known as Red Cargo, is present in over 70 cities across Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, and Indonesia. – Rappler.com
