DTI targets 1-day business registration – Palace
The target is in line with President Rodrigo Duterte's directive to eradicate red tape in government

MANILA, Philippines – If the Duterte administration has its way, entrepreneurs in the Philippines can register their businesses in just one day.

“DTI (Department of Trade and Industry) has also committed to reduce the number of days to register a business to 3 days or, ideally, one day,” Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said during a press briefing on Tuesday, July 12.

This target was discussed at the July 11 Cabinet meeting led by President Rodrigo Duterte.

It’s one way for the DTI, headed by Go Negosyo founder Ramon Lopez, to meet the President’s marching orders to eradicate red tape in government processes.

This order was repeated during the Monday Cabinet meeting.

“As directed by the President, all agencies are to stop red tape in their agencies and to stop people from queuing up,” said Abella.

According to the Doing Business website, the process of business registration – from applying for a business permit to receiving the document – takes around one to two weeks.

Abella did not elaborate on how the one to 3-day target would be met. Duterte had earlier said he wanted required signatures for government permits to be reduced to just 3 or 5. He also said he wanted government agencies to issue documents or permits within 72 hours after application.

Erring agencies could be reported to Malacañang through a planned 8888 citizen hotline. – Rappler.com
