GMA files 2nd complaint vs SkyCable on Eat Bulaga signal loss
(UPDATED) The ABS-CBN pay TV subsidiary, meanwhile, takes strong exception to GMA's claim that signal interruption is confined only to the network

MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) — GMA Network, Incorporated filed its second complaint against the pay TV subsidiary of ABS-CBN Corporation regarding signal disruption before the airing of noontime show Eat Bulaga – which carries the popular #AlDub segment.

In its 5-page complaint before the National Telecommunications Commission (NTC) on September 17, GMA executives said SkyCable Corporation’s signal disruptions before the airing of Eat Bulaga are “irresponsible acts.”

This was not the first time the network complained about signal disruptions during its highly-rated noontime show Eat Bulaga.

The Felipe Gozon-led network said in its complaint that “the seeming similarity in the reports indicate that they are not isolated cases.”

GMA Network further argued that “[the] signal disruptions were in order to reduce the viewership level of Eat Bulaga, which has enamored millions of viewers with its phenomenal AlDub.”

On Saturday, September 19, AlDub, which features the split-screen fictional romance between celebrities Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza aka Yaya Dub, scored a record-breaking feat on social media channel Twitter by generating over 12 million tweets for the hashtag #ALDUBMostAwaitedDate in a span of a day.

GMA Network requested NTC to investigate the complaints submitted by several inconvenienced subscribers and to take immediate action regarding the matter.

NTC received a similar complaint by the Gozon-led network on August 25.

On August 28, ABS-CBN subsidiary SkyCable fired back at the allegation of rival GMA Network on Eat Bulaga‘s signal loss, calling its complaint “a malicious accusation.”  (READ: GMA to SkyCable: Refute Eat Bulaga signal loss complaint)

SkyCable added that it is willing to cooperate with NTC over GMA Network’s complaint.

SkyCable: It’s not an isolated case

In response, SkyCable said in a statement on Wednesday, September 23 that it did not experience any network problem that could have resulted in the loss of GMA’s signal alone.

“If there were incidents of signal loss affecting certain portions of the network in the areas and period referred to, these affected other channels as well, not just GMA,” the ABS-CBN subsidiary reiterated in the statement.

SkyCable said it submitted on September 18 its letter to the NTC and GMA regarding a similar complaint filed last August 25.

“We will, however, continue to cooperate with the NTC should they see the need to further investigate this matter,” the Lopez-led network said.

“Once again, we take strong exception to GMA’s claim that the signal interruption is confined only to their network since there is no basis for this insinuation,” SkyCable said. – Rappler.com
