CebGo propeller plane's wheel catches fire in Cebu airport
CEBU, Philippines – A CebGo propeller plane bound for Tacloban caught fire around 7:00 pm on Monday, September 26.
According to statements from Cebu Pacific and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP), the plane – CebGo flight DG6577 – aborted takeoff "due to a fluctuating oil indication on one of the engines. While taxiing after aborting take off, the aircraft encountered a wheel fire and the crew initiated an immediate evacuation of passengers."
There were 67 passengers on board the flight, and all were evacuated safely. There was one reported minor injury.
The fire was declared under control by 7:54 pm by the fire department.
The airport, CAAP, and the Cebu Pacific on-ground team provided assistance to the passengers. Cebu Pacific also said that the firm is arranging for hotel accommodations and providing meals and transfers to the affected passengers.
