MANILA, Philippines – Legacy carrier Philippine Airlines (PAL) is set to implement its grand plans for international expansion that would hike its global route network to 33.

In a press briefing on Wednesday, March 6, PAL chief executive officer Ramon Ang announced the airline’s aggressive route expansion with the launching of flights to 6 new destinations in Australia, Malaysia, China and the Middle East.

PAL’s new destinations are the following:

  • Kuala Lumpur starting May 1
  • Brisbane, Darwin and Perth in Australia on June 1
  • Guangzhou in China on June 1
  • Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates on October 1

Ang said the new routes are meant to address the clamor from overseas Filipino workers (OFWs).

“Australia, Kuala Lumpur and Guangzhou are major destinations for business and leisure. Abu Dhabi, on the other hand, has a large concentration of OFWs, making it a prime destination in the Middle East,” he said.

PAL also launched its new campaign tagline: “Your home in the sky.” Ang said PAL hopes to bring its uniquely Filipino style of warm “at home” service to its passengers to and from the Philippines.

According to Ang, about 16 wide-bodied Airbus A330 aircraft are scheduled to be delivered in the last quarter of 2013 that would be used for its long-haul operations. – Rappler.com
