MANILA, Philippines – Emirates’ non-stop, daily Clark-Dubai flights will help the Philippines attract more tourists from Europe and the Middle East, according to a top official of the Clark International Airport Corporation (CIAC).
CIAC president and CEO Victor Jose Luciano said direct Dubai flights from Clark, Pampanga will boost the government’s chances of achieving its 10 million foreign visitor arrival target by 2016.
“Clark will be now connected to the Middle East and Europe,” he said.
Emirates will launch its Clark-Dubai route on October 1. The first flight via a Boeing 777-ER will carry 428 passengers.
Emirates Philippine country manager Gigie Baroa said the route will benefit Filipinos working and living in the Middle East.
“The Clark route will serve as an exit point for the millions of Filipinos working in the Middle East, which has the most number of temporary overseas Filipinos at 2.7 million, with 1.5 million in Saudi Arabia and 680,000 in the United Arab Emirates,” Baroa stressed.
Emirates has been flying to the capital Manila since 1990 and currently has 3, daily, non-stop flights on this route.
The airline, one of the fastest growing in the world, expects the volume of passengers from the Philippines to hit at least one million in 2013. Data from the Civil Aeronautics Board showed Emirates flew 438,843 passengers from January to June, consisting of 217,592 inbound and 221,251 outbound passengers.
Emirates services 134 destinations in 77 countries across 6 continents. It has 192 aircraft on order and eyes a fleet of 250 aircraft by 2020. – Rappler.com
