CLARK, Pampanga – Following the success of the launching of its non-stop, daily Clark-Dubai flights on Tuesday, October 1, Emirates said it is looking at more hubs in the Philippines.

“We continue to review and study the markets. We are looking at more airports here,” said Mohammed Mattar, Emirates’ divisional senior vice president for airport services, in a press briefing.

The Clark International Airport is Emirates’ 135th hub globally and its second in the Philippines. The airline has been operating flights out of the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) in Manila since 1990.

Mattar said they will study the feasibility of operating out of other airports in the Philippines.

“Emirates and the Philippines are inextricably linked and we look forward to building our successful relationship with the country. Our services to both Clark and Manila will further enhance key tourism and trade links between the Philippines and the United Arab Emirates,” he stressed.

Emirates’ Clark-Dubai flights will help the Aquino administration’s goal of attracting 10 million foreign tourists by 2016, said Clark International Airport Corporation president and CEO Victor Jose Luciano.

Emirates Philippine Country Manager Gigie Baroa said the same thing, noting “Clark is shaping up to be one-of-a-kind tourism and business center.”

“We are proud that Emirates is a part of that development,” she said.

The Civil Aeronautics Board recorded 438,843 passengers flown via Emirates from January to June, consisting of 217,592 inbound and 221,251 outbound passengers.

“The Clark route will serve as an exit point for the millions of Filipinos working in the Middle East, which has the most number of temporary overseas Filipinos at 2.7 million, with 1.5 million in Saudi Arabia and 680,000 in the United Arab Emirates,” Baroa said.

Emirates uses Boeing 777 for its Clark-Dubai flights. The aircraft has 42 business Class flatbed seats and 216 Economic Class seats.

Emirates services 134 destinations in 77 countries across 6 continents. It has 192 aircraft on order and is eyeing a fleet of 250 aircraft by 2020. – Rappler.com
