PLDT, PCCW Global sign interconnection deal for PH-HK route
The deal enables PCCW Global and the telco to expand their relationship in new market segments, while improving their existing portfolios for fixed, mobile, and international subscribers

MANILA, Philippines — Subscribers of the Philippine Long Distance Telephone Company (PLDT) can experience better voice and data connectivity between Hong Kong and the Philippines, after the telecommunications company signed an Internet protocol exchange (IPX) multi-service interconnection deal with PCCW Global.

PCCW Global is the international operating division of Hong Kong’s premier telecommunications service provider, HKT.

PLDT said in a statement that the interconnection agreement enables PCCW Global and the telco to expand their relationship in new market segments, while improving their existing portfolios in fixed, mobile, and international services.

The agreement allows PLDT to enjoy access to PCCW Global’s MobileXchange service suite, giving the telco the opportunity to differentiate itself in roaming and in domestic services.

“PLDT is a major partner in many of our projects, and the IPX interconnection was a natural step for us. We are looking forward to bringing innovative solutions to international services which could directly benefit the Philippine market,” PCCW Global CEO Marc Halbfinger said in the statement.

For PLDT Chairman Manuel Pangilinan, the agreement will enable his telco to “deliver a broader range of digital services to our customers, especially to our overseas Filipinos in Hong Kong and their families back home.”

Spanning over 5 continents and with customers in more than 140 countries, the PCCW Global network is one of the largest in the world supporting Groupe Speciale Mobile Association (GSMA) standardized services and Cloud-based applications, enabling new revenue streams for connected operators. – Chrisee Dela Paz/Rappler.com
