Smart to launch data roaming bundles in March
About 6 million Filipino overseas travelers are expected to benefit from the offers, which aim at cushioning data roaming charges

MANILA, Philippines – Smart Communications Incorporated is set to unveil in March the country’s first data roaming bundles to benefit over 6 million Filipino travelers.

Horror stories abound about travelers who have returned to shocking mobile bills, so a bundle of offers, which they can choose from, depending on their usage, is an alternative to cushion the charges.

About 45 million Filipinos travel within the country while about 5 to 6 million go abroad, Tourism Undersecretary Benito Bengzon said.

All-Day Facebook Abroad, All-Day Chat Abroad, and All-Day Email Abroad will be available to postpaid subscribers starting next month, Smart International Services and Global Access First Vice President/ Group head Tina Mariano said.

Subscribers could choose and enjoy the services essential to their lifestyle, whether it is Facebook, mobile chat apps, or email, for as low as P250 ($5.65) per day.

The mobile carrier’s new data roaming bundles were introduced during the 22nd Travel Tour Expo (TTE) organized by the Philippine Travel Agencies Association (PTAA).

“This positive trend has opened up new ways for Smart, as the leader in mobile services, to serve Filipinos and keep them connected for a more enjoyable trip,” Mariano said.

Bundled offers

Smart postpaid subscribers who are constantly using Facebook may avail of the All-Day Facebook broad bundle for P350 ($7.91) per day.

Subscribers active on their mobile chat apps may enjoy the All-Day Chat Abroad bundle, giving them access to 10 popular chat apps such as Line, Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Viber, WeChat, BBM, Chikka, Kakao, Babble and Oist! for P250 ($5.65) per day.

The All-Day Surf Abroad, which offers 24 hours of access to mobile apps and websites, including search engines, social networking sites, navigation sites and chat apps – with the exception of streaming and peer-to-peer file sharing, are still available to Smart subscribers for only P550 ($12.43) per day.

The data roaming bundles were among the new products rolled out as part of Smart’s fresh push for “Internet for All.” – Rappler.com
