The company's 8-megawatt Villasiga 1 hydro power plant in Antique is scheduled for completion in June

ALMOST COMPLETE. SUWECO said that its 8-megawatt Villasiga 1 power plant is scheduled for completion in June.

MANILA, Philippines – Sunwest Water and Electric Co. Inc. (Suweco) announced that its 8-megawatt (MW) Villasiga 1 hydro power plant in Antique is already 80% complete.

The facility, a priority renewable energy project in the Visayas region, is scheduled for completion in June. The hydro power plant will be commissioned after two months when it has the capability to export power to the Panay grid.

The Villasiga 1 hydro power plant is a run-of-river facility that diverts water from Paliuan River. The facility directs water into a barrier built across the river called a weir, through a waterway called a headrace, down an intake structure called a penstock line, through 3 turbines in the power house then back into the river.

Suweco said that all the equipment except for the 3 turbines have already been delivered to the site. The company is targeting to start operations by August.

The facility is expected to stabilize power voltage in Antique and reduce the province’s fuel costs due to lesser importation of fuel.

Last February, Suweco announced that it was looking to formalize a P4-billion syndicated loan deal to finance plans to open 4 new power plants within the first half of 2013. – Rappler.com
