Emperador Distilleries Inc. is exporting to Africa, Central Eastern Europe, and Russia

MANILA, PHILIPPINES – Exporting is the next big thing for Emperador, along with its planned expansion to another 1,000 hectares of vineyard in Spain.

Emperador Distilleries Inc., the country’s largest brandy maker, will start exporting in 2015 its products to Africa, Central Eastern Europe, and Russia.

This would also be the first time that Emperador products will tap exports to Europe although it has very small presence in countries where there are large concentration of Filipino residents, Winston Co, president of Emperador said in an interview on the sidelines of the Great Investment Forum on October 8.

“The exports will be a big boost,” said Co, without indicating target volumes.

But in the Philippines alone, Emperador is selling over 30 million cases a year.

The company will also close by the end of month its £430-million acquisition of Whyte & Mackay, the 5th largest scotch whiskey company in the United Kingdom, Co said.

The acquisition is the single biggest investment of a Philippine company in Scotland and the third biggest in the world.

Co said Emperador will utilize the distribution network of White & Mackay to penetrate the international market.

The company is also targeting to expand 1,000 hectares of vineyard in Spain where it can use its new technology to produce high yielding grades. The company now has over a thousand hectares of vineyard in Toledo which it acquired for P5.8 billion ($129.40 million).

The additional 1,000 hectares will cost much less but Co declined to elaborate.

The company has also set aside P4 billion ($89.29 million) in 2014 to expand its local distillery and manufacturing to be operational by 2016.

Emperador is a unit of Andrew Tan’s holding company Alliance Global Group, which is also engaged in real estate, resorts and gaming, and fast food restaurants. – Rappler.com
