Philippine ports chief resigns
Juan Sta Ana says he wants to return to the private sector after serving the Aquino administration for 5 years and 5 months

MANILA, Philippines – Philippine Ports Authority General Manager Juan Sta Ana has resigned, effective end of December, the PPA announced on Tuesday, December 8.

Sta Ana tendered his resignation to President Benigno Aquino III through Transportation Secretary Joseph Emilio Abaya on Friday, December 4.

In his letter to the President, the outgoing PPA chief said it is “with a heavy heart” that he has decided to return to the private sector, a decision that he has been contemplating for several months.

The PPA press statement said Sta Ana “held on to the post to finish the PPA pending organization plan and placement of employees, as well as [to wind] up his international commitments.”

“With all these commitments almost done, I think I could already go and return to the private life,” Sta Ana said.

Sta Ana, who was appointed PPA chief on July 13, 2010, completed his two-year stint as chairman of the ASEAN Ports Authorities Association on November 3. The PPA also completed its international commitment of hosting the APEC Ports Services Network (APSN) on last November 13.

The PPA said under Sta Ana’s watch, the Governance Commission for Government Owned or Controlled Corporations elevated the PPA’s status to “First Class” government corporation or Classification A, based on its 2012, 2013, and 2014 financial statements audited by the Commission on Audit.

Sta Ana was PPA manager of the Port District of Manila from 1988 to 1995.
Before returning to the PPA in 2010, he was senior vice president of FF Cruz & Company, Incorporated, one of the largest construction companies in the Philippines. – Rappler.com
