Tap-and-go beep cards now accepted on BGC buses
BGC bus commuters can now use their tap-and-go beep cards to pay for their bus rides

MANILA, Philippines – The contactless beep cards used for Metro Manila’s 3 railway systems can now be used to pay for trips in buses plying Bonifacio Global City (BGC) in Taguig City.

Commuters may now use their tap-and-go beep cards to pay their fares on the BGC buses, which are using the new system on limited public trial, AF Payments Inc announced in a statement on Thursday, June 16.

AF Payments, the consortium of Ayala Corporation and Metro Pacific Investments Corporation, is behind the unified ticketing system launched last year for the Metro Rail Transit (MRT3) and the Light Rail Transit (LRT) Lines 1 and 2.

The P1.7-billion ($36.70-million) public-private partnership project aimed to create an automated fare collection system for the 3 railway lines.

“We are pleased to partner with BGC Bus as this will move us closer to our goal of making the beep card an all-in-one card for commuters in Metro Manila,” AF Payments Inc CEO Peter Maher said.

“BGC buses serve thousands of commuters daily and our goal is to be able to provide them with a reliable and efficient payment system, especially those who hop from the MRT or the LRT to the bus,” he added.

Jun Galvez, general manager of Bonifacio Transport Corporation, also said that the system integration offers BGC bus riders more convenience in their daily commute.

Commuters can buy the cards and reload them at the Ayala and Market Market terminal of the BGC buses. They can also reload the cards at select Bayad Center outlets in Metro Manila. Each bus ride costs P12.

The beep card replaces the old Tap BGC stored value card, which was previously used on the BGC bus line that connects the business district to EDSA and Ayala Center in Makati City. – Rappler.com
