MANILA, Philippines – Ayala-owned Manila Water Company Inc. will be investing P1.9 billion to build a 12-kilometer sewer network in Taguig, Makati and other areas.
Manila Water, the water concessionaire for the east zone of the Metro Manila area, expects construction for the Taguig North Sewer Network 3 Project to be completed between 2014 and 2016. The structure will be the company’s first major sewer network system since it implemented its Wastewater Master Plan.
The structure, which will employ a separate system approach, is designed to collect domestic wastewater through a dedicated sewer network.
“This is also the first time that Manila Water will use a new technology for sewer network, a trenchless methodology in pipe-laying to reduce the traffic impact and inconvenience to commuters,” said Abelardo Basilio, Manila Water’s strategic asset management group director.
Basilio added that the project would allow Manila Water to expand its service coverage in the east zone.
“Manila Water believes that the project will largely contribute to the improvement of the quality of water bodies in the metropolis as this will help protect the environment by building more wastewater infrastructure to prevent contamination and pollution of the three rivers in its concession area,” he said.
Once it is completed, the facility is expected to treat up to 75 million liters of wastewater a day. The added capability will serve half a million residents in Taguig, Makati and other areas.
