Citi credit cards mark 25th anniversary in PH
On its 25th anniversary, the country's largest foreign bank offers a celebratory promo: 'My Unforgettable Story'

MANILA, Philippines – Citibank, the country’s largest foreign bank, toasted the 25th anniversary of its credit card offerings in the Philippines and launched a new promo to celebrate the occasion.

Citi Philippines introduced the Citibank MasterCard in 1990, which marked the global bank’s entry into the Philippine credit card market.

The offering led to changing the payment landscape of the country and lowered the minimum income requirement to own a credit card, Citi Philippines said.

“Thank you to our Filipino customers for being with us on this journey and making us number 1. We still have more years to celebrate and we are accepting every challenge the global market has to offer,” said Citi Philippines CEO Batara Sianturi in his speech at the celebratory event Monday, April 27.

Sianturi also stressed the importance of digital banking to the firm’s future.

“We have been investing in technology to support our expansion of our consumer banking business. Our goal is to be the world’s leading digital bank,” he said.

Citi Philippines said 47% of its customers in the Philippines are registered users of digital banking, to go along with its 7 million registered digital banking users throughout Asia-Pacific.

Nearly 98% of all transactions in the region now take place via non-branch channels, with roughly 20 million digital banking transactions a month in Asia, with the trend expected to double in 5 years.

Celebratory promotion

The group also recently launched a special promotion titled, “My Unforgettable Story,” as a gesture of thanks to its customers.

Fifteen Citibank credit card holders will be chosen in 3 raffle draws, with 5 winners to be awarded in each set.

Each of the 3 sets revolves around travel experiences geared toward specific themes, namely, stories of discovery, of romance, and of adventure.

The first set of winners can choose one of the “Stories of Discovery,” prizes including a gourmet food tour in Japan; journey to self-discovery in Bali; scuba diving in Palau, and China or Egypt exploration.

The second raffle draw, themed “Stories of Romance,” gives winners the choice of a honeymoon in Maldives; an island escapade in Thailand; or a hot air balloon date in Dubai.

Winners of this set can also have their dream-wedding gown designed by a top couturier, or make their most romantic proposal happen.

The final raffle draw, “Stories of Adventure,” entitles the winner to pick between a family ski adventure in Korea, US theme park getaway, Mediterranean cruise, African safari, or the chance to experience the Aurora Borealis or northern lights phenomenon.

“In designing this promotion, we wanted to break the mold and ensure that our clients are truly engaged from day 1,” said Bea Tan, Citi Philippines consumer banking head.

To join, a Citibank credit card holder must use his or her card, with each purchase registering as an entry for each of the raffles.

The promotion registers entries from February 26 until August 31. The first raffle will be on May 18; the second on July 27; and the final one set for September 21.

“To give all cardholders a chance to win, we’re awarding raffle entries for nearly every use of a Citi card: from using Citibank Online to charging with Citi PayLite, and even when you apply for a personal loan,” explained David Stoughton, Citi Philippines credit payments head.

Each use of the card corresponds to specific amount of entries for the raffle. The full weighting scheme can be viewed on the promotion website. – Rappler.com
