MANILA, Philippines – Declaring him a game changer in Philippine business, SGV Foundation honored Xurpas Incorporated’s Chairman and CEO Nix Nolledo as its choice for the Ernst and Young (EY) Entrepreneur of the Year 2015 Philippines award at a banquet held in Makati on October 13.

Along with the accolade, Nolledo will also be the country’s bet for the EY World Entrepreneur of The Year awards to be in held Monte Carlo, Monaco, in June 2016.

The theme for the 2015 program was “Game Changers.”

“An entrepreneur understands that winning the game often means changing it for the better. Capitalizing on their strategic vision, they see the possibilities and opportunities that others cannot,” said SGV Foundation Program Director Antonette Tionko.

“As game changers, entrepreneurs support a greater purpose, which is to improve the current business landscape,” he added.

Nolledo founded Xurpas Incorporated along with 2 others in 2001 with a total paid up capital of P62,500 ($1,364).

The firm went public in December 2014 as the first consumer tech company in Southeast Asia.

Nolledo serves as chairman of Elevation Pitch, an annual Entrepreneur’s Organization (EO) event showcasing promising startups that seeks to connect them with venture capitalists, businessmen, and members of the tech community.

He was the first local entrepreneur to be chosen as an impact entrepreneur by Endeavor Philippines, an organization that aims to transform emerging economies by providing support to high-impact entrepreneurs.

Nolledo is also a member of the Rappler Board.

Nolledo also received the Master Entrepreneur award for applying sound management practices in the areas such as finance, business development, marketing, human resources, and sales. 

Other winners this year included Judith D. Versoza, president and CEO of Aveate Management Corporation, who received the Woman Entrepreneur award for her work in growing Josiah’s Catering from a small eatery into a catering powerhouse that can handle up to 30 events daily.

Philip N. Tan, president and CEO of Wellmade Motors and Development Corporation, received the Innovation Entrepreneur award for pioneering unique processes that revolutionized the metalworking industry in the Philippines.

Jose Mari R. Del Rosario, president and CEO of Microtel Inns & Suites (Pilipinas), Incorporated received the Industry Entrepreneur award, specifically for the hospitality industry for creating a whole a new category of hotel accommodations in the country.
