Globe finds 19 illegal repeaters in Baclaran
The interference from illegal signal repeaters results in dropped calls, garbled lines, and weak signals for mobile phone users

MANILA, Philippines – Globe Telecom announced Wednesday, July 9, it had uncovered 19 illegal repeaters in Baclaran.

The 19 repeaters were found in separate buildings along the stretch of Roxas Boulevard.

Lawyer Froilan Castelo, Globe’s general counsel said the use of signal repeaters, if not properly coordinated with the telco provider concerned, can cause network interference. The interference results in dropped calls, garbled lines, and weak signals for mobile phone users.

Illegal repeaters can refer to indoor or outdoor antennas and wireless adapters that boost the network’s coverage and signal by hogging bandwidth from a legitimate network infrastructure.

The 19 illegal repeaters were found in separate buildings in the area that includes Shoe Plaza Uneed Bldg, Harrison Bldg, Khatar Bldg, Parka Bldg, ANLI Bldg, JB Bldg, Saulog, Metrobank Pasay, Warehouse No. 802, Warehouse No. 142, and Warehouse No. 162 in Pasay City.

“Globe will continue to step up its campaign to eradicate the use of illegal repeaters or signal boosters as such equipment impedes the flow of communication, adversely affecting the experience of our customers,” notes Castelo.

He added that Globe “will not put up with such kind of unscrupulous activities.” Rappler.com
