Samsung plays up ‘big surprise’ on March 1
The ‘big surprise’ is widely expected to be the new Galaxy smartphone to be unveiled at Samsung’s unpacked event

MANILA, Philippines – “This quarter, there’s a really big push that’s going to happen on March 1. We’ve got a big surprise coming out,” said Digs Dimagiba, Samsung Imaging and Mobile Business Unit director.

The surprise is widely expected to be the unveiling of its latest flagship, the Galaxy S6 smartphone. The unveiling is expected to take place at Samsung’s Unpacked event ahead of the Mobile World Congress.

To go along with this, Samsung has also unveiled a new line-up of next-generation Smart TVs, cameras, smartphones, printers, washing machines, and refrigerators, among others.

“We’re still the market leader. We aim to be at the top forever. I don’t think there’s any other company that has the same kind of technology and infrastructure that we have,” Dimagiba said.

Dimagiba was also keen to emphazise the importance of the Philippines to Samsung, saying that the country’s huge population and Filipinos’ penchant for smartphones make it a very important market for the company.

“We were even once dubbed the texting capital of the world,” he quipped.

Dimagiba said the county’s growing economy bodes well for the company’s prospects, reasoning that as people’s income rises, they are likely to spend more on innovative products that simplify their lives.

“As people get richer, they seek the finer things in life. Samsung has always been at the forefront of innovation and has always kept up with people’s needs,” he said.

Samsung has underlined that point by recently showcasing a line-up of new technology from a curved 88-inch SUHD TV, to new line of chef-inspired appliances, to a new NX500 camera.

It also expanded its line-up of Galaxy A devices with the Galaxy A7, A5 and A3.

Its 2015 line-up of so-called “living” appliances includes the WA6700 active dualwash top-load washing machine, Powerbot VR9000 robot vacuum cleaner, and AR7500 wall-mounted air-conditioner and AX7000 air purifier.

“Samsung has continuously demonstrated a strong legacy of innovation, and this year is no exception,” said Yong Sung Jeo, president and CEO of Samsung Electronics South East Asia and Oceania, during the 2015 Southeast Asia Forum. – Rappler.com
