MANILA, Philippines – International hotel group Tune Hotels is increasing its presence in the Philippines with the opening of its first hotel in Cagayan de Oro (CDO) in Mindanao and 5 more hotels planned over the next 18 months.

This latest opening marks their 5th hotel in the Philippines after Angeles City, Ermita and Makati and Cebu City. New locations will be in Mindanao, Quezon City and Manila.

“Thanks to the booming Philippine economy and its very healthy tourist arrivals, we are very pleased with our performance here since we opened our very first Philippine hotel at Angeles City, Pampanga more than two years ago,” Tune Hotels Group CEO Mark Lankester said in a statement Friday, July 19.

CDO is the 10th largest city in the Philippines and is the capital city of the province of Misamis Oriental in Mindanao. The hotel is along C. M. Recto Avenue, the highway to Iligan and Butuan.

“The Philippines is a priority market for Tune Hotels. With the rise of budget travel packages from airlines and increase in business travels, there’s a high demand for value hotels that provide affordable, safe, clean, convenient and comfortable accommodations,” said Lankester.

“Our focused business model of providing the quality basic essentials to travelers so that they are guaranteed a comfortable 5-star bed and a great shower means that we can make our room rates as attractive as possible, consistently. By eliminating services that they do not need, we allow people to save more so they can stay in tune to what matters most when they travel,” he added.

The group has received almost 5 million guests since the opening of its first hotel in Downtown Kuala Lumpur in 2007. Tune Hotels also has an additional 11 hotels in Malaysia, five in the UK, four each in Thailand and Indonesia, and one in India. The company is set to open another property in Japan and Australia this year while future projects are planned in the Middle East, Europe and Africa.

Tune Hotels is part of Tune Group, a lifestyle business conglomerate co-founded by Tony Fernandes and Kamarudin Meranun, who are the Group CEO and Deputy Group CEO respectively of Asia’s largest low-cost carrier AirAsia. – Rappler.com
