Alliance Global’s 2020 goal: Be the largest PH hotel developer
The Andrew Tan-led conglomerate aims to build 12,000 hotel rooms under 12 different local and foreign brands

MANILA, Philippines – Andrew Tan-led holding firm Alliance Global Group Inc. revealed plans to grow its hotel portfolio to 12,000 rooms by 2020, as it aims to become the country’s largest hotel developer.

Tan, in a speech during the Philippine Property Awards 2014 where he was named as Real Estate Personality of the Year, said the 12,000 hotel rooms would be under 12 different local and foreign brands that include Marriott, Hilton, Sheraton, Westin, Okura, and Maxims.

“By the year 2020, we envision our group to be the largest hotel developer in the Philippines, with a total portfolio of around 12,000 hotel rooms,” he said.

The group has built 1,900 rooms in its existing hotels namely: Richmonde Hotel Ortigas; Eastwood Richmonde Hotel; Marriott Hotel, Maxims Hotel and Remington Hotel in Newport City; and Fairways and Bluewater in Boracay Newcoast.

Tan said the new hotel rooms would be built within the existing township developments of property arm Megaworld Corporation, and integrated casino and resort unit Travellers International Hotel Group Inc. The rooms are broken down as follows:

  • 2,000 rooms in Newport City
  • 2,800 rooms in Resorts World Bayshore City
  • 1,900 rooms in Boracay Newcoast
  • 2,700 rooms in The Mactan Newtown in Cebu
  • About 400 rooms in Iloilo Business Park
  • More than 180 rooms in Twin Lakes, Tagaytay as well as in other parts of Metro Manila

6-year target

By 2020, the Megaworld group will complete around 8,600 rooms, while Travellers will complete 3,400 rooms in Resorts World Manila in Pasay City and the planned Resorts World Bayshore in government-sponsored PAGCOR Entertainment City.

“Once completed, our 12,000 hotel rooms can accommodate up to an estimated 2 million visitors per year. It is one way we can help the government achieve its yearly tourist targets,” Tan said.

Alliance Global is engaged in property development (Megaworld and Global-Estate Resorts Inc.), casino (Travellers International), food and beverage manufacturing and distribution (Emperador Inc.), and quick service restaurants (Golden Arches Development Corporation, which operates and franchises quick service restaurants under the McDonald’s brand). – Rappler.com
