MANILA, Philippines – Oil companies jacked up the prices of their gasoline and diesel products on Tuesday, September 2, ending a series of rollbacks and marking the first price adjustments for the month.

In separate announcements, oil companies Petron Corporation, Pilipinas Shell, Phoenix Petroleum and PTT Philippines raised prices of gasoline by P0.65 per liter and diesel by P0.25 per liter.

The higher prices “reflect movements in the international oil market,” Petron said.

This developed as the Department of Energy (DOE) launched a campaign to ensure Filipinos’ safety when using petroleum products.

Energy Secretary Carlos Jericho Petilla led the launch of 6 Oil Industry Management Bureau or OIMB Mobile Testing Vans at the DOE grounds.

The mobile vans are equipped with two instruments, namely the sulfur analyzer, which determines the levels of sulfur present in the fuel product; and the fuel analyzer, which measures the research octane number, percentage of ethanol and density for gasoline and the levels of fatty acid methyl ester and density for diesel.

The vans will be deployed in different locations throughout the country. – Rappler.com
