MANILA, Philippines – Eight international flights – 7 of them diverted to Pampanga – were affected by the partial closure of the Ninoy Aquino international Airport (NAIA) runway on Saturday, September 6.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) said in a media advisory on Saturday that it had issued a notice to airmen (NOTAM) “partially closing the Ninoy Aquino International Airport runway (NAIA) 06/24 starting 12 midnight until 5 am Saturday ( September 6) due to the runway maintenance repair.”
“The procedure is for derubberizing and emergency pavement repair on a portion of runway 06/24 between taxiway H2 and E4, forcing [airlines] to divert flights that were supposed to arrive past midnight on Saturday,” CAAP said.
The flights that were diverted to the Clark International Airport in Pampanga include Philippine Airlines PR 311 from Hong Kong, Cebu Pacific flight 5J143 from Hong Kong, Cebu Pacific flight 5J269 from Xiamen, Cebu Pacific flight 5J185 from Incheon, PAL PR419 from Incheon, PAL PR105 from San Francisco, PAL PR117 from Vancouver, and PAL flight PR103 from Los Angeles.
Etihad Airways flight EY421 bound for Abu Dhabi was supposed to leave before midnight on Friday, but instead delayed its departure due to the partial runway closure. – Rappler.com
