The Malay Municipal Tourism Office said Boracay drew 1,725,483  tourist arrivals in 2016 compared to 1,560,106 in 2015 – a 10.6% increase.

Foreign arrivals in Boracay surged to 868,765, up by 12.89% from 2015, while domestic tourists registered 813,302 arrivals, up by 8.7%.

Koreans topped the foreign tourists who visited the famed island resort last year, accounting for 37% of the total number.

There were 321,016 Korean tourists in Boracay in 2016, 9.8% more than the 292,174 arrivals in 2015.

China came in second with 273,297 tourists last year compared to 177,926 in 2015. This is a record 53.6% increase, owing to warmer diplomatic ties between China and the Philippines and direct flights from mainland China to the Kalibo International Airport.
