The Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System Regulatory Office (MWSS RO) on Friday, April 30, directed water concessionaires to extend their suspension of all water disconnection activities until the strict COVID-19 lockdown is lifted.

MWSS RO ordered Manila Water and Maynilad Water Services not to cut services and provide 24-hour water supply in their service areas until the end of the modified enhanced community quarantine (MECQ).

Water concessionaires were earlier directed not to cut services during the ECQ period.

The regulator also asked local government units to assist Maynilad and Manila Water, as they conduct meter reading and billing activities during MECQ.

MECQ was extended in Metro Manila, Bulacan, Rizal, Laguna, and Cavite until May 14, as COVID-19 cases breach the 1-million mark.

Disconnection activities of Manila Electric Company or Meralco was also suspended until May 14, as Manila and surrounding areas remain on lockdown. – Rappler.com
