Real estate tycoon Andrew Tan is giving Nesthy Petecio, the first Filipina boxer to win an Olympic medal, a fully-furnished condominium unit in Davao City worth P10 million.
Tan’s Suntrust Properties, a unit of Megaworld Corporation, said on Tuesday, August 3, that the condominium unit for Petecio is in a live-work-play township community in Davao City.
The condo is a little over an hour away from the boxer’s hometown in Davao del Sur.
“We are very proud of this huge accomplishment of Nesthy Petecio. Her silver medal in the Olympics is a historic one because this women’s featherweight division of boxing debuts only in this Tokyo Olympics, and she is the first silver medalist in the category,” said Suntrust president Harrison Paltongan.
“Rightfully, she deserves the reward from our chairman, Dr. Andrew L. Tan, for the pride she gives to the Filipino nation,” added Paltongan.
Petecio first secured an Olympic podium finish when she defeated Yeni Arias of Colombia. She is going home with a silver medal after a loss to Japan’s Sena Irie in the women’s featherweight final.
In 2019, the Davao del Sur boxer was crowned world champion and clinched a gold medal at the Southeast Asian Games.
The Philippines’ performance in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics is its best yet. Weightlifting wonder Hidilyn Diaz gave the Philippines’ its first gold, with Megaworld also awarding her a P14-million condominium unit in Quezon City. – Rappler.com
