The expressway will be open from 6 am to 6 pm until January 15, 2021

The Subic Freeport Expressway (SFEX) opened on Monday, December 28, to temporarily serve motorists coming in and out of the Subic Bay Freeport Zone in Olongapo during the holidays.

Tollway operator NLEX Corporation on Monday said the 8.2-kilometer expressway is open from 6 am to 6 pm every day until January 15, 2021.

Public Works Secretary Mark Villar said in a statement the SFEX is 92% complete.

“While there are still works to be done in some areas, we are temporarily opening the new road to ease the travel of our motorists this holiday season, especially the truckers and merchants who are delivering essential goods,” said Villar.

The P1.6-billion expansion project converted SFEX into a 2×2 divided expressway, constructing additional one lane in each direction, two bridges, and a new tunnel.

The Maritan Highway-Rizal Highway-Tipo Road junction was also elevated and the drainage system in the area was enhanced. – Rappler.com
