WATCH: Why Matteo Guidicelli and Sarah Geronimo don’t work together on-screen

MANILA, Philippines – Matteo Guidicelli spoke more about girlfriend Sarah Geronimo and his current outlook on relationships at the Single/Single press conference Thursday, August 13.

The low-key couple keeps details of their relationship very private, though they celebrate each other’s achivements openly. 

“You know what, one thing’s nice – talking about relationships and being in showbiz, if your partner understands what you’re doing – it doesn’t go [the same for] everybody – but for me in my case, I have my time to work, to achieve my dreams…. That’s why Sarah and I, we don’t work together dahil (because) we’d like to keep it separate ‘di ba, so I can work on things like this, working with Shaina, exploring different things.

“But this is work eh. My real life is real life naman, that’s why we’d like to really keep it separate, mga dalawang bagay hindi dapat mag-connect ‘yung dalawa. (Two things that should not be connected.)

Single/Single is Matteo’s upcoming TV series, where he co-stars with actress Shaina Magdayao. 

During the press conference, Matteo said that he still has some things to fix before he can marry Sarah. “I just have little things that I have to fix pa before – to be totally ready for [marriage],” he said.

Matteo added that he’s known he wanted to be married early since he was 20. “Alam mo simula 20 years old pa ako gusto ko na magpakasal nang maaga, 20 pa ako so, I don’t know eh, I have like an old soul kung baga.”

(You know, since I was 20 years old, I wanted to be married early. I was 20, so I don’t know, I have an old soul, in a way.)

When asked if Sarah knew this about him, Matteo answered with “I think so,” and added that he doesn’t know if Sarah wants to be married young as well.

When asked if he saw himself with Sarah 3 years from now, Matteo said: “Hopefully if everything goes well ‘di ba, you never what’s going to happen next.”

Sarah has never spoken about concrete marriage plans to Matteo, but has made jokes about marriage on The Voice Kids, where she is a coach.

In a July 18 episode of The Voice Kids, she teased that she was ready to get married. “Ang ganda, ang linis ng boses mo, pero parang nagkukulang pa ang puso, kasi siguro dahil nga ‘di ka pa handa magpakasal. Ako lang ang handa na – ‘di, joke lang!” she told contestant Paul Abellana, who sang the song “Marry You” by Bruno Mars during the blind auditions. 

(Your voice is so beautiful and clear, but it’s still missing some heart, maybe because you’re not ready to be married. I’m the only one who’s ready – no, just kidding!)

Matteo was also asked about how he was able to get Sarah’s mom’s approval for their relationship. Sarah’s mom Divine is known to be strict with Sarah. Matteo replied that he would prefer not to talk about that for now. “Alam niyo gustong-gusto ko talaga sagutin iyan, pero ‘wag muna ngayon,” he said.
